Breakfast
We ate our breakfast by the swimming pool the next day. The atmosphere was excellent!
This day’s itinerary:
The attractions included:
The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
The Giraffe Centre
The Kazuri Beads Factory
The Karen Blixen Museum
After the full day city tour, the driver would drop us off the airport.
Morning:
We had a new driver and car. Compared to the safari vehicle, this car was smaller and airconditioned. It suited the city tour!
We started our city tour at 9:00 am. On our way to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, we took a break at a lookout with a great view of Nairobi.
There were herds of cows in this big city.
Around 10:30 am, we arrived at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. This was an orphanage for elephants which were abandoned by their parents. Its business hours were 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Here were gathered hundreds of people. We were stood around the baby elephants and listened to the explanation from the staff. They adopted those baby elephants since the number of elephants have decreased sharply. They also encouraged visitors to donate and help the elephants.
This orphanage adopted 28 baby elephants, one of whom was very weak. Therefore, we just saw 27 elephants. They were so cute, but naughty.
Not only did they feed those elephants, but they also needed to clean the farm.
Lunch:
This was a garden restaurant. Most of the customers were tourists.
Besides western food, they offered Asian food.
Afternoon 1: The Giraffe Centre
The design of the gift shop was interesting.
↓ Their staff taught us how to feed giraffes.
↓Wow! Their heads are huge!
↓ Another one was approaching
↓ It was easier for giraffes when we fed them on the second floor
How adorable they were!
Afternoon 2: The Kazuri Beads Factory
Before I arrived there, I had thought they had just been a shop and the travel agents could have got some commission. Nonetheless, most of workers were women who were single-parents or have disabilities. As a result, we bought some souvenirs to help them.
This is my favorite giraffe mug.
Afternoon 3: The Karen Blixen Museum
This museum was the former home of Danish author Karen Blixen who was famous for writing “Out of Africa”.
The conditions of the furniture were nice. We also saw some real animal skin.
Nairobi Airport
We finished all of the attractions about 5:00 pm. However, our flight took off at 23:59. Our driver recommended the Carnivore Restaurant which was famous for serving all kind of meat. Although I am not a vegetarian, eating too much meat is not my cup of tea. Therefore, we decided to go to the airport earlier.
We arrived at the airport at 6:00 pm.
We ate some Chinese food and shopped for souvenirs.
So cute T-shirts
Later, we went to lunge and spent a lot of time there.
It was boarding time! It meant it was time to say goodbye. Kenya, we will be back!
Bangkok Airport
Nine hours later, we came back to Asia!
We ate a lot of Thai food!
What delicious food!
After a long-haul flight, we arrived at home. However, we vividly remember the savannah with plenty animals! As a result, we have started planning out next trip to Africa!
